Google Page Rank can be frustrating to those who don’t understand how page rank works and why SEO is important. Here are 3 vital factors to improving your google page rank, according to Digital360. (Linking to source articles or reference information is an example of good SEO.) I will do my best to add to their well-written article.
1. Good Content for increased Google Page Rank
Create meaningful, relevant, informative content for your posts and pages. Your content has to add to the great fabric of the subject matter you are writing about. Your competitors are following good SEO practices, so they are also adding meaningful, relevant and informative content, which can make it a challenge for you to find new, useful perspectives.
If you want your website on page 1 of a google search, hire a reputable SEO agency … a very good, reputable SEO agency. Why? because there are shady practices that can get your website blacklisted from a google search entirely. Here is a list of “Black Hat Practices” to stay away from:
- Cloaking
- Creating duplicate content
- Click fraud practices
- Spamdexing
- Keyword stuffing
- Doorway pages
Black Hat Techniques Used Today (written by Kasia Perzyńska) is a great article defining these practices. It is over at unamo.com.
SEO is very time consuming. Making sure your web content gets seen by the right audience is hard work. SEO professionals keep on top of the ever-changing rules and trends to make sure your company gets a fair Google placement.
Hiring an SEO company
- Have a realistic budget (small businesses, $500–$1000 per month)
- Do your research first
- Be wary of SEO companies that cold call you and promise that they can get you to page 1 on google
- Ask a lot of questions. Here is a great article written by Gillon Hunter regarding asking questions when hiring a SEO professional
Handling SEO on your own
DIY SEO, or Do-It-Yourself Search Engine Optimization, presents both opportunities and challenges. It involves managing your website’s visibility in search engine results without external assistance. While it allows for full control over your strategy and cost savings, it demands a deep understanding of SEO techniques and the ability to adapt to the ever-changing digital landscape.
Here are five essential steps to help you succeed in organic SEO:
- Keyword Research: Start by identifying relevant keywords and phrases that your target audience is likely to search for. Tools like Google Keyword Planner can assist in finding high-traffic, low-competition keywords.
- On-Page Optimization: Optimize your web pages by incorporating chosen keywords into titles, headings, meta descriptions, and content. Ensure your website is user-friendly, loads quickly, and has a mobile-responsive design.
- Quality Content Creation: Regularly produce high-quality, informative, and engaging content that addresses your audience’s needs and interests. Content can include blog posts, articles, videos, infographics, and more.
- Link Building: Develop a strong backlink profile by acquiring links from reputable websites in your industry. Guest posting, influencer outreach, and creating shareable content can help attract valuable backlinks.
- Monitoring and Analytics: Continuously track your SEO performance using tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console. Analyze data to identify areas for improvement, such as optimizing underperforming pages or adjusting your keyword strategy.
By following these five steps, you can establish a solid foundation for organic SEO and enhance your website’s online visibility over time.
SEO and Google similar but very different
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and Google PageRank are related but distinct concepts in the world of online marketing and search engine ranking. Here are the key differences between the two:
Purpose
SEO – SEO refers to a set of strategies and techniques aimed at optimizing a website’s visibility on search engines like Google. The primary goal of SEO is to improve a website’s organic (unpaid) search engine rankings and attract more organic traffic.
Google PageRank – Google PageRank, on the other hand, is an algorithm developed by Google to assess the importance and authority of web pages based on the number and quality of links pointing to them. PageRank was primarily used by Google to rank web pages within its search results.
Scope
SEO – SEO encompasses a wide range of strategies, including keyword optimization, on-page SEO, technical SEO, content creation, and backlink building, all aimed at improving a website’s overall search engine visibility.
Google PageRank – Google PageRank is a specific algorithm that primarily evaluates the authority and relevance of individual web pages based on their backlink profiles. It is just one of many factors that Google uses to rank web pages in its search results.
Outcome
SEO – The outcome of successful SEO efforts is improved search engine rankings for specific keywords and increased organic traffic to a website. SEO is holistic and involves optimizing the entire website for better search performance.
Google PageRank – PageRank, while once a significant factor in Google’s ranking algorithm, is no longer publicly visible or considered a primary ranking factor. Google has shifted its focus to more sophisticated algorithms that take into account numerous factors beyond just backlinks.
Visibility
SEO – When users enter relevant search queries, SEO affects how a website appears in search engine results pages (SERPs). It aims to improve a website’s position in these search results.
Google PageRank – PageRank is not visible to the public, and Google discontinued public updates of PageRank scores in 2016. It is now an internal metric used by Google’s algorithms.
2. Link building for increased Google Page Rank
Link building refers to the process of getting external high ranking pages to link to your website. This can and will happen if you remember factor 1 – Good Content. Have you ever heard “Build it and they will come”? Well, write good content and they will link. In the first paragraph, I linked to the article by Digital360 that inspired me to write this post. Kural Design doesn’t have a high-ranking website but it is a backlink for them.
Link building strategies can extend beyond the digital realm and include in-person interactions. It’s crucial to actively promote your website, specific pages, and engaging articles. When vendors seek your promotion, they should reciprocate by promoting your services. Consider that links serve as endorsements, reflecting trust and fostering valuable relationships in the online ecosystem.
3. RankBrain
Google uses a machine-learning artificial intelligence system called RankBrain to help retrieve its search results. Machine-learning is when computers teach themselves instead of human keying in information (AI). RankBrain is part of Google’s search “algorithm,” which scans billions of pages and find the pages most relevant for particular queries. What does this article have to do with design?
There is design in everything, including SEO. The ability to make company websites, a specific webpage or pages rise above their competitors is a process. When plotted out perfectly, it’s a beautiful thing.
